Solely owned by the Government of Ethiopia, Ethiopian Airlines was founded on December 21, 1945. Its first operational flight took off on 8 April 1946 to Cairo. It flagged its international flights in 1951. Formerly known as Ethiopian Air lines, it changed its name to Ethiopian Airlines in 1965 when the firm became a share company. In addition to carry-on baggage, a passenger is also allowed to carry certain items that may not exceed maximum weight limit of 11lbs such as a lady handbag, pocket book or purse, a laptop and an overcoat, wrap or blanket.

Cloud Nine passengers can check-in either 2 pieces, with each piece not exceeding 70 lbs. or 3 pieces with each pieces not exceeding 50 lbs.
Economy Class passengers can check-in 2 pieces with each piece not exceeding 50 lbs.
The maximum dimensions of each piece must not exceed 62 inches.
