To help you out in your endeavor, we have prepared a list of six Italian destinations you absolutely can't skip.

Venice

In terms of romantic allure, Venice is only rivaled by Paris. The city has been bestowed with many a titles in its history of existence. Often called the City of Canals, the City of Bridges, and the City of Masks, the titles are a testament to the vivid charm of the city. Taking a gondola ride through the city with your loved one is the most romantic thing you'll ever do. Another noteworthy thing about this city is the Acqua Alta. During the winter months, especially on a day of full moon or new moon, the waters of the Venice canals rise and splash over the cobbled streets. This acts as a cherry on the cake for those romantic evenings with your beloved.

Rome

Colosseum is the most iconic ancient building in the world. Nothing, we repeat, nothing comes even close to it. And where is it located? In Rome! The City of Fountains (Rome has more fountains than any other city in the world) is full of art-architecture, delicacies, and culture. Rome has a long history. Being the capital of one of the greatest empires - the Roman Empire-the city has some of the most beautiful buildings and fountains that can be dated back to 100s of years. The city is also decorated with a lot of Michelangelo's sculptures. When in Rome, you can see why it is called the birthplace of the Western world. The buildings sing to you their history. Also, Rome is sometimes credited to be the birth place of pasta, so you'll find a great variety of pasta here. Make a hotel booking in Rome and try the "Pasta Alla Carbonara," you will absolutely love this dish.

Florence

The smallest city on this list is perhaps the most beautiful. Florence is dubbed as the birthplace of Renaissance. Needless to say, you will find great artworks in every nook and cranny of the street. The famous sculpture of David by Michelangelo is also here in Florence. There are a number of beautiful churches and narrow cobbled streets. The best way to enjoy the artworks is by slurping on a cup of gelato and walking on the paved paths that slither through this artistic Italian city. Also, Leonardo da Vinci, Donatello, Michelangelo are among the long list of legendary artists who lived here. Do eat the Bistecca alla Fiorentina, it's the famous Florentine T-Bone steak.

Tuscany

Now, we know Tuscany is not one single city, but then, Tuscany as a whole is way too beautiful to be excluded from the list. Tuscany has a wide array of landscapes, right from rolling hills of Pisa to the white sandy beaches of Viareggio. Another great thing about Tuscany is that there are alpine mountains in the region where people live out their adrenaline rush moments as they ski. The region is also home to the Leaning Tower of Pisa which is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. While in Tuscany, a must try dish is the Crostini Toscani. Don't ask the chef or the waiter about the ingredients, you are better off not knowing. Rent a car and drive around whole of Tuscany, it has a lot to offer.

Sicily

This Mediterranean city is a recurring theme for poets and writers. Sicily is, indeed, beautiful enough to inspire art and artists. Even the great Homer wrote about Sicily and described it as the "land of Cyclops." The city is home to the highest active volcano in Europe - Mount Etna, and it acts as a backdrop to this picturesque coastal city. The high rising mountains and the turquoise waters clash to create a landscape that makes you wonder if you really need anything else in the world. The city is also home to several UNESCO World Heritage sites including the very well-known Syracuse. In addition to being a visual treat, Sicily is a culinary delight as well. Our favorite dish here was the Pasta Alla Norma.

Milan

All you fashion lovers already know a lot about this place. But, even those of you who aren't the vogue readers have surely heard of it because, well, it's Milan we are talking about. Milan is a tourist favorite. Located in the northern parts of the country, Milan is bustling with vibrant ethos. Italy is full of beautiful buildings but none like Santa Maria Delle Grazie. The building is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to the widely famous painting by Leonardo Da Vinci - The Last Supper. Milan is famous for its cheese. Here, you'll find all kinds of cheese. However, our favorite is Gorgonzola. A few slices of Gorgonzola with a glass of authentic Italian wine and you have a simple yet elegant meal. Book cheap flight tickets to Milan and witness the greatest fashion show on the planet - Milan Fashion Week.
